TIL that a retired wedding photographer's comment about my shutter button technique was spot on

Guy came into my shop dropping off a vintage Nikon and watched me test it. He said I was stabbing the button instead of rolling into it. Changed my whole hand position and my shots are way steadier now. Anybody else get a random tip from a customer that stuck with you?

Always nice when some random person drops actual knowledge like that. Had a guy at the gym tell me to stop jerking the barbell and start pulling it against my legs - totally fixed my deadlift form in one session. Old timers usually know their stuff, even if they come off a little grumpy sometimes.

Honestly I used to roll my eyes at unsolicited gym advice too, thought everyone was just trying to show off. But after a random guy at the climbing gym pointed out I was using way too much arms and not enough legs on my pulls, I totally changed my tune. Sometimes the grumpy old dudes really do have the golden nugget of wisdom you just didn't wanna hear.

That climbing advice helped me stop ego climbing and actually get better.
