Spent 20 years folding my sleeping bag wrong - a ranger at Glacier National Park set me straight
I always rolled my sleeping bag into a tight cylinder like the military does. Last summer at Glacier National Park, a ranger watched me struggle for 5 minutes and finally said "you're crushing the insulation, just stuff it loose into a compression sack." He showed me how the down needs air pockets to stay warm. Has anyone else been doing it the hard way for years?

Wait, you mean I've been torturing my sleeping bag for years like I'm packing a parachute and the whole time I could've just been shoving it in there like laundry? Sounds like that ranger saved you from a lifelong battle with a stuff sack that never quite zips all the way. Guess I'll add that to the list of things I've been doing stupidly, right behind tying my shoes wrong.
