Switched from job boards to niche Slack groups and the quality of leads is night and day

I spent 6 months on Indeed and LinkedIn getting ghosted after interviews. Joined a Slack group for my industry last month and already have 3 solid offers. Has anyone else had better luck with community based job hunting over traditional sites?

Slack groups are hit or miss depending on the industry. I tried a few niche ones for my field and it was mostly people trying to sell their services or spam their blogs. LinkedIn at least has filters and you can see who actually posted the job. Got my last two jobs through cold applying on company career pages. The groups just felt like a lot of noise and not much signal for me.

Hey @drew906 I gotta say I think you might be selling Slack groups short. The whole "people selling stuff" thing is real but it really depends on how you join them. A lot of the good ones have strict rules against self promotion. If someone posts their blog or service they get booted fast. The ones Ive been in that work well are invite only or have a small community that actually vets members. LinkedIn is okay for seeing whos legit but the jobs there are often reposted from other sites or have hundreds of applicants already. Cold applying on company pages is smart but you miss out on the inside info people share in those groups. Sometimes someone will post about a role that isnt even public yet or tell you what the culture is really like before you apply. So yeah the noise can be bad but the signal is there if you find the right group.
