That time my uncle's 'network harder' advice backfired hard
My uncle spent 30 years in sales and always told me to hit up every networking event in town, no exceptions. Last March I took his advice and went to 4 events in one week here in Columbus, shaking hands and forcing small talk until my face hurt. Instead of job leads, I got three recruiters who clearly remembered me as 'that guy who handed out 20 cards like confetti' and one awkward call with a hiring manager who brought up my desperate follow-up email. Has anyone else found that picking 1 or 2 quality events beats grinding through a packed calendar?

Feel for you, man. Quality over quantity is real, especially when you're trying to build actual connections instead of just collecting business cards. Sounds like you learned the hard way that people can smell desperation from a mile away, but at least now you know what doesn't work.
