Took 6 months to realize I was writing cover letters all wrong

I spent 6 months sending out tailored resumes and cover letters for accounting jobs in Austin and got maybe 3 callbacks total. Then a recruiter friend glanced at one and said, "you're listing duties, not results." I had no idea that tiny shift mattered so much. Rewrote everything with numbers, like "cut monthly close time by 2 days" instead of "handled month-end reports." Within 3 weeks I had two interviews and one offer. Now I wonder how many other basics I'm still missing. Has anyone else had a recruiter or hiring manager point out a blind spot that changed everything for you?
