Tried negotiating a higher salary for the first time and it actually worked

Honestly, I've been at my warehouse job for almost 3 years and never once asked for a raise. Last month I got some numbers from Glassdoor showing I was about $4 an hour under the average for my area. I went into my boss's office with a printed sheet and just asked straight up if we could talk about it. Ngl, I was shaking a little but he looked it over and said he'd check with HR. Got a $2.50 raise approved within a week. Has anyone else had luck just being direct like that or do most places shut it down?

Good for you, seriously - that takes guts.

And I totally get that feeling, @sarahpatel. I did something similar a few years back when I finally walked away from a job I'd been at for almost a decade. It was terrifying handing in that notice, but once I did, it felt like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. The first few months were rough, but I learned more about myself in that time than in all my years there combined.
