Tried networking by just asking people for help instead of offering value first
I went to a tech meetup in Austin last week and decided to try something different - instead of trying to sell myself, I just asked three random people for advice on a project I'm stuck on. Two of them ended up offering to help, and one even introduced me to their manager who's hiring. Has anyone else found that asking for help works better than trying to look like you've got it all figured out?

Funny enough, I tried this once and ended up accidentally asking the CEO of a startup for help untangling my headphones. Awkward silence aside, they still gave me solid advice. So yeah, being a little helpless seems to work better than pretending I know how to program my own coffee maker.

Nah, faking competence gets you way farther honestly. People respect confidence.
