I walked out of my $28k coding bootcamp on day 9 and I'd do it again
Everyone told me I was throwing away my future when I left the program in Denver after 9 days, but the whole thing was pre-recorded videos and a chat room with 200 people and one guy named Marcus who answered questions twice a day. I asked about the job placement numbers three times and finally got a PDF showing that only 4 out of 60 grads from my cohort had offers after 8 months. So I put that $28k toward a community college AA instead and got an IT helpdesk job at a hospital in Aurora within 5 months. Has anyone else bailed on a big name bootcamp, and what did you switch to?
I read a piece on Reddit about a guy who left a bootcamp in Texas after a week because it was all videos too, and he ended up doing self-taught stuff with free stuff online and landed a junior dev role in about a year. The part that stuck with me was how many people in the comments said the same thing about those schools, that the job numbers they advertise are padded or old. Sounds like you did the math and got out before sinking more money, and the helpdesk job proves you didn't need the fancy name at all.
Did you ever think those bootcamp ads were too good to be true? I used to be all in on them honestly, I figured if you paid enough and put in the hours it was basically a fast pass into tech. Seeing all these stories about padded numbers and old stats though, man, it really flipped my view. If a guy can grind free stuff online and land a junior role in a year, then the fancy name on the certificate is doing way less than they want you to believe. Sounds like you dodged a bullet and the helpdesk job is proof enough that you can get in without all that.
