Spent $400 on a career coaching package and got a pep talk instead
Back in 2019 I paid $400 for a 6 session career coaching package thinking I'd get actual resume help. Most sessions were just her asking how I felt about my job. Has anyone else paid for career advice and just gotten a lot of nodding?

The real issue here is that a lot of these coaches have no actual HR or hiring manager background. They're life coaches who rebranded as career coaches when that became trendy. My neighbor went through something similar, paid $300 for a package and the woman kept trying to get her to "find her passion" instead of fixing her cover letter. It feels like a lot of these services are just selling empathy, not actual job market expertise.

Why is nobody talking about how some of these "coaches" are just repackaging the same generic advice from free YouTube videos and calling it a premium service? At least with an actual HR background you'd get some real insider knowledge that isn't just "update your LinkedIn.
