The one question a student asked me that completely changed how I teach.
I was tutoring a kid in algebra last Tuesday and she just looked at me and asked 'why do we have to learn this?' and I couldn't give her a good answer, so now I start every lesson by tying the math to something they actually care about like video game scores or budgeting for a car.
