Client asked me why I always wear two watches on the job

I was finishing a custom built-in for a guy in Boise, and he pointed at my wrists and said, 'One for the time, one for the beat?' I had to explain that the digital one is set to the 24-hour clock for my night shift nursing job, and the analog one is just easier for reading fractions when I'm measuring. It never hit me how weird it looked until someone said it out loud. Anyone else have a weird habit they didn't realize was odd until a client pointed it out?

Honestly that seems like a pretty practical setup, not weird at all. People make a big deal out of the smallest things. If both watches serve a clear purpose for your different jobs, who cares how it looks. The client was probably just making small talk, not actually judging you. Most folks are too wrapped up in their own stuff to really notice or remember.

Totally agree, I used to wear a regular watch on one wrist and a fitness tracker on the other for the same reason. Got a couple of looks at the coffee shop, but honestly, after a week nobody batted an eye. It's just about what works for you.

The "couple of looks at the coffee shop" thing is so real. I bet @cameroncarr got the same confused stare I get when I carry two phones. It's like people's brains short circuit trying to figure out the purpose. They'll ignore a guy in a full dinosaur costume, but two watches? That's the line. Honestly, if it gets the job done, let them wonder. They'll forget by the time their latte is cold.
