Showerthought: My kid's kindergarten teacher said something about glue that stuck with me

I was helping in my son's class and the teacher told a kid, "Put the glue on the small piece, not the big one, so you don't make a mess." I realized I do the exact opposite with wood glue on big panels. I always slather the whole surface. Tried her way on some cabinet face frames yesterday, just a thin bead on the rail, and my squeeze-out dropped by maybe 70%. Anyone else pick up a better trick from a totally different job?

Honestly that's a game changer for shop cleanup time. I used to wipe up so much wasted glue. It makes sense when you think about it, the pressure from clamping spreads it out anyway. What other jobs do you thin bead for?

Totally get what you mean, I used to drown everything in glue too. @gray_kim91, try it on your next panel glue-up, you'll save so much time on cleanup. What kind of projects are you working on?
