Showerthought: I lost a full day's pay by not checking the subfloor for squeaks before starting.
Last month I took a job in a split-level house, just a basic carpet swap in the living room. The old stuff was out, pad was down, and I was about to start rolling when I walked across the floor and heard it. A loud, sharp squeak right in the middle of the main walkway. I had to stop everything, pull up the new pad, and find the loose board. Spent over three hours just driving screws and testing it, which killed my schedule for the day. I usually check for squeaks after removing the old carpet, but this time I rushed because the homeowner was hovering. That one mistake cost me about $350 in lost time on the next job I had to push back. Always take the extra five minutes to walk the bare subfloor with some weight. Anyone got a faster fix for a squeaky board than just screwing it down from the top?

Ugh, been there. My wallet still squeaks louder than that floor did.

Sounds like a cheap fix to me, how bad could it be?

You know, it's that same feeling when you skip reading the recipe all the way through and get halfway into dinner before you see you're out of a key spice. We trade a tiny bit of focus now for a huge waste of time later. I see it when my son rushes his homework and has to redo the whole page, or when I don't check the weather and end up soaked on a walk. That quick check is almost always worth it.
