Back when rates were low, I pulled out $25k for a new roof and it saved my house from major water damage a year later.
Anyone else use their cash out for a big fix that ended up being a total lifesaver down the road?

Holy cow, a collapsed sewer line is the stuff of nightmares! I can't even imagine the smell, let alone the cleanup. That's not just a close call, that's a full-on disaster you dodged by a year. Spending that money must have felt awful at the time, but wow, what a payoff. Makes my old roof story seem pretty tame in comparison, doesn't it?

Got to love when a home repair loan feels like a psychic premonition. My cash out went to replace the ancient cast iron sewer line from the house to the street. Spent months grumbling about the debt until my neighbor's identical line collapsed and filled their basement with, well, you know. Suddenly my grumbling turned into a quiet prayer of thanks.
