Update: My immersion blender gave up the ghost mid-potato leek soup last night.
I had to hand-chop the last five pounds of leeks (which took forever) and now my wrist is killing me, so has anyone found a brand that can actually handle a big batch of root vegetables without dying?

My old Cuisinart one died on butternut squash. I switched to a Bamix and it's a tank, handles frozen fruit and thick soups no problem.

Heard Bamix is a tank, @noah880, good to know it handles the tough stuff.

Used to think all immersion blenders were basically the same until my cheap one gave out on a big pot of carrot ginger soup. Reading what noah880 said about the Bamix being a tank for squash really made me look into a better one. I ended up getting a more powerful model and the difference is night and day, it just powers through root veggies without a fuss. Honestly, saving my wrist from another chopping session is worth the extra money.
