Yesterday, a neighbor's homemade chimney repair almost started a blaze.

My cousin in Ohio tried to patch his own flashing last fall with some roofing tar and a prayer. It held for about a month before we saw smoke curling out from under his siding. It cost him nearly three grand to have a pro fix the mess, which was way more than just hiring someone in the first place. Some jobs really do need a licensed person with the right tools. It's scary how fast a small DIY mistake can turn into a major emergency.

My neighbor's duct tape fix melted in July.

Roofing tar is a temporary band-aid at best. Saw a guy try that on his RV roof, and the whole thing bubbled up and cracked when it froze. Water got in and ruined the interior. Sometimes you just gotta swallow the cost and call someone who knows what they're doing.
