PSA: I hit 50,000 miles on my car and everyone told me to trade it in - I'm keeping it
I just rolled past 50,000 miles on my 2019 Honda Civic last week and every person I mention it to acts like the thing is about to fall apart. My buddy at work keeps telling me I'm crazy for not trading it in while it still has value. But here's the thing - I've done nothing but oil changes and one set of tires on this car. It runs perfect, gets me from Lakewood to my delivery routes all over the west side without a hiccup. Meanwhile the same people telling me to trade it are the ones with $500 car payments and check engine lights. I get that 50k is a milestone but it's not like the wheels are gonna fall off at 60k. Am I wrong for thinking modern cars can go way past 100k easy or is everyone just hooked on that new car smell?

Oh man, that reminds me... @gavinp44 is totally right about that. My neighbor had a 2012 Camry he drove to 200k and the only reason he got rid of it was because a tree fell on it in a storm. I had a 2005 Focus that hit 150k before I finally sold it and it still ran smooth... just needed a new alternator once. People act like 50k is some magic number where cars turn into pumpkins or something. My brother-in-law trades his truck every 3 years and he's always complaining about the payment... meanwhile my old Civic just keeps going with no drama.

You ever notice how the people pushing you to trade it are the same ones who don't keep their own cars past 60k? I kept my old Corolla to 180k with nothing but basic maintenance and it never let me down once. Stick with what works man, that Civic will treat you right for years if you take care of it lol.
