Walked past the old Detroit Shoreway theater on West 65th and the marquee still says a movie from 2019
I was cutting over to Lorain Ave last Tuesday around 7pm and noticed the marquee at the old theater on West 65th still lists a film that came out back in 2019. The lights are half burnt out and there is a handwritten sign taped to the door about a lease issue, but nobody I ask seems to know if the place is coming back. Does anyone here know who owns that building or if there is any plan for it, because it bums me out seeing it sit like that.
West 65th and Detroit had that place listed on the Cleveland Historical site a while back, and I remember reading it opened back in the 20s as a silent movie house. The last thing I heard was that some group out of Lakewood looked at buying it around 2021 but the roof was too far gone and they walked away. After that it just kind of sat there while the owner fought with the city over code stuff. There was also talk on a Facebook page for the old neighborhood that a church wanted it for services, but I never saw anything come of that either. That marquee is probably a landmark by now, sad as it is.
