Warning: My 90 year old sewer line in Ohio City finally gave up
Woke up Tuesday to a swampy patch in the front yard and a backup in the basement laundry sink. Turns out the clay pipe under the parkway is crushed, and the city says the repair on my side runs about 6 grand. Anybody on the west side dealt with a sewer line replacement, and did your homeowner's insurance cover any of it?
That 6 grand quote sounds about right for Ohio City, those old clay pipes are everywhere under the west side. Homeowner's insurance almost never covers it because they call it wear and tear or lack of upkeep, which is a bunch of crap if you ask me. Check if your city has a program for the parkway section though, some of them split the cost since that part is technically on their land. I'd get two or three more quotes before you sign anything, prices swing a lot on this kind of work.
