Just compared my old gas mower to an electric one after using both for a full season in my yard

The electric one cost me $30 total to run all summer, while the gas mower needed over $120 in fuel and oil, plus it was way louder and smelled bad.

You really have to wonder though, how long before battery tech catches up completely and gas mowers are just a pain no one wants to deal with anymore? Like, what's the tipping point going to be where the upfront cost of an electric mower stops being such a barrier for people on a tight budget? Was the battery still holding a good charge by the end of the season or did you notice any drop off in power? I bet within five years the noise and smell alone will make gas feel as old fashioned as a garden hose made out of lead.

I always thought electric was just a fad, but seeing the real cost difference like that is pretty convincing.
