Spent $180 on a home energy audit and all they did was tell me to buy LED bulbs
Last month I finally paid for one of those home energy audit services, mostly because our electric bill in Phoenix hit $290 in July and I wanted to find the real problem. The guy walked around for about 40 minutes, poked his head in the attic, then handed me a report that basically said switch to LED bulbs, seal some gaps around the doors, and maybe get a smart thermostat. That is stuff I already knew from a free article. He never even got on the roof to check the ductwork, which is what I actually suspected was leaking. When I asked about it he said that would be a separate $400 test. For $180 I got a pamphlet and two free bulbs. Has anyone actually gotten useful info from one of these, or did I just pay a stranger to walk around my house and judge my laundry room?
