The guy at the transfer station was right about the old fridge

Last month I hauled an old fridge to the dump in Eugene. Guy working the line saw me about to toss it and said "hold on, that compressor's still warm, someone'll take that for parts." I figured he just wanted me out of the way. But he walked me over to a swap shelf and sure enough, a guy from a repair shop grabbed it in 10 minutes for the compressor and coils. Kept it out of the landfill and I saved the $15 disposal fee. He also mentioned checking the door gaskets for reuse but I was already loaded up. Anyone else had luck with parts swapping at their local transfer station?

Figured it was just one of those "recycle everything" sermons you hear all the time. But last spring I hauled an old washer there and the same kind of thing happened. Some kid grabbed the drum motor before I even got the tailgate down. Now I always check the shelf before I toss anything with a cord or a motor on it. That little habit has kept a few generators and a lawnmower out of the pile too.
