Vent: People treating recycling like a magic fix are missing the point

I saw a guy at the dump last week toss a half-full gas can into the recycling bin thinking it'd get 'processed out' - that stuff just contaminates the whole load and makes it worse. How do you get through to folks that reducing what we buy matters more than dumping things in the right bin?

Maybe it's just me but I once saw someone throw a whole Thanksgiving turkey in there still wrapped in foil.

Right? And the foil creates some kind of weird steam explosion (or at least a mess of burnt foil shards) that probably ruins the whole heating element. Pretty sure that's how you get a campfire in your kitchen, just slower.
