My buddy's pour-over setup made me rethink my whole morning routine
I went over to my friend Dave's place last Saturday and watched him make coffee with a cheap plastic V60 and a gooseneck kettle he found at a thrift store. He talked about the water temperature like it mattered more than the beans. I've been using an automatic drip machine for 10 years and never once checked the temp. It hit me different because he's not some coffee snob, he's a mechanic who drinks Folgers at work. But he took that extra 90 seconds to pour slow and it tasted cleaner than anything I've made at home. Made me wonder how many other small things I'm just skipping because I think they don't make a difference. Has anyone else had that moment where watching someone else do something simple changed how you do it?

My buddy Mike started using a stovetop whistling kettle instead of his microwave for tea. He said the cheap plastic kettle he had for years was fine but he just wanted something different. When I watched him wait for that whistle and pour it over a bag in a mug it clicked for me how rushed I always am with everything. Now I actually sit there and wait for the water to boil instead of zoning out or doing three things at once and I can tell the difference in how the tea tastes.

You don't even need the special kettle. Just a regular saucepan and a stopwatch changes everything because the real difference is paying attention instead of just hitting a button and walking away.
