My cousin told me to skip the new Spider-Man run and I'm glad I didn't listen

He said the new writer was 'trying too hard' and the art was 'too messy' after the first issue. I picked up the first three anyway because I like the artist, and I just finished the fifth issue last night. The story really came together, and that messy art style totally fits the chaotic energy of the villain. It's become my favorite pull right now. Has anyone else stuck with a book after getting bad advice on it and been surprised?

Oh man, I feel this so hard! My buddy told me to drop the new Moon Knight book after two issues, said it was too confusing. But I stuck with it, and by issue four, all those weird story threads wove together perfectly. That confusing start was actually setting up this huge payoff. It's the best thing on my list now. Always trust your own gut over someone else's hot take!

That's a good point about sticking with something. But what happens when your gut is wrong though? I've definitely wasted time on books or shows that never got better. How do you tell the difference between a slow burn setup and something that's just badly made from the start?

My rule is to give it three episodes or fifty pages before I decide.
