PSA: The new comic con in my city had a weird vibe about collecting
I went to the River City Comic Con last weekend and noticed something that bugged me. In the main hall, a lot of the big vendors and even some panels kept pushing the idea that a comic's value is the most important thing. One guy at a booth told me, 'You should only buy books that are going to go up, like an investment.' I think that's the wrong way to look at it. I just want stories I enjoy, not a stock portfolio. Does anyone else feel like some fans care more about price tags than the actual comics?

That's messed up, telling people to treat comics like stocks. The whole point is finding a cool story or art you love. If the value goes up later, that's just a bonus. Turning the main hall into a weird trading floor sounds like it kills the fun.

Honestly, I was that guy for years, only hunting keys and first appearances. It made the hobby feel like a second job. Then I found a beat-up old issue of a nothing series in a dollar bin and just loved the story. That's what flipped it for me. The fun comes from reading, not from watching a price guide.
