Bike lock jammed at Powell St station, had to carry my bike 6 blocks

My U-lock mechanism froze up right as I locked it to the rack by Powell station on Tuesday, and I spent a solid 20 minutes trying to wiggle the key before giving up. I ended up lugging my commuter bike all the way to the bike shop on Market, which was 6 blocks, and the guy there said the internal spring had snapped. He fixed it for $15 on the spot, but now I am paranoid about locking up anywhere without testing it twice first. Anyone else had a lock fail mid-commute and had to figure out a backup plan?

$15 fix seems like a pretty easy day to me.

Grabbed a small leaky faucet in my kitchen last month, thought it was gonna be a whole thing. Turned out the rubber washer inside just wore out, cost me like 4 bucks at the hardware store and maybe 20 minutes with a wrench. Sometimes the easy fix is right in front of you if you actually look at the part that's broken instead of assuming the worst. It's crazy how often a little piece is the whole problem. Did you end up figuring out what was wrong with yours?
