I got yelled at by a bus driver in Chicago for standing past the yellow line" - look man, I get that it sucks getting yelled at, but honestly the driver was probably right. That yellow line isn't just a suggestion, it's there so you don't get smacked by a mirror or something when the bus turns. I see people all the time leaning past it and acting surprised when the driver tells them to move back. It's a safety thing, not them being a jerk for no reason. Plus Chicago drivers have to deal with a ton of crazy stuff every day, so maybe cut them a little slack. Next time just step back and avoid the whole thing.

Oh man, I had a buddy who got yelled at on a CTA bus a few years back. He was standing right on that yellow line, like practically leaning into the aisle, and the driver slammed on the brakes at a light. He went flying forward and nearly landed in some lady's lap. The driver just looked in the mirror and said "that's why the line is there, genius." My buddy was embarrassed but he admitted later the guy was totally right. You just don't think about the physics of a bus stopping short until it happens to you.
