I just found out most BIOS battery failures are actually just corrosion on the holder contacts, not the battery itself.

I was about to toss a 2012 Dell OptiPlex after getting constant time and date errors, but I scraped the green gunk off the battery clip with a screwdriver and it booted up perfect, anyone else run into this on older office machines?

Right? "Just corrosion" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. I once spent an hour trying to revive a 2008 HP Compaq and finally just licked the battery contacts like a weirdo because I was out of alcohol wipes. It worked, but now I have to live with that decision.

That HP Compaq was built like a tank but demanded strange sacrifices from those who dared revive it.
