PSA: The before-and-after of a client's 'quiet' gaming PC build...

A guy brought in his new $2000 rig last Tuesday complaining it sounded like a jet engine, and after opening it up I found the 'silent' fans were installed backwards, pushing all the hot air right back into the case. I flipped three 120mm Noctua fans around, and the noise dropped from a 70-decibel whine to a gentle hum in under five minutes. How often do you see simple orientation mistakes causing such a dramatic difference in thermals and noise?

Oh man, that's wild! I was just reading a forum thread last week where a guy couldn't figure out why his new CPU cooler was so bad. Turns out he left the plastic film on the cold plate. It's crazy how the simplest oversights, like your fan direction or that sticker, can totally wreck a build's performance. People spend all this money on fancy parts and then a tiny mistake makes it all go sideways. Makes you double-check everything twice before you power it on.

My friend's AIO pump header was unplugged for a month.

Haha yeah that plastic film story is everywhere! Actually though, I heard that one's kind of an urban legend that keeps getting passed around. Most coolers have a super obvious warning sticker right on the film itself, not just a clear piece. It's still a good reminder to be careful with the basics. But I bet more real problems come from forgetting to plug the pump in or messing up the thermal paste.
