On a big pour in Phoenix, the power screed died right as we hit the critical window.

We had to finish a 40-yard slab by hand with magnesium floats before it set, sparking a debate on whether we should've had a backup machine on site or if that's just wasted money, so what's your take on backup gear for commercial jobs?

My crew still laughs about the time I was the backup screed... it didn't go well.

Been there. My attempt at screeding looked like a toddler's sandcastle project. They still bring it up at every cookout.

Would you rather pay for a backup or pay the crew overtime to fix a bad pour?
