My uncle warned me about the '15 minute city' plan back in 2021 and I brushed him off
He's a city planner in Portland and over a beer, he flat out said, 'They're not building these zones for your convenience, they're building them to lock you in.' I thought he was just being a crank. Fast forward to now, and my own town council just passed the first phase of a 'walkable neighborhood' plan that puts checkpoints on the main roads out of my district. The maps they showed us look exactly like the concept papers he showed me three years ago. It's not about traffic or carbon, it's about control. They're starting with 'congestion fees' to leave your zone during peak hours. I feel like an idiot for not listening sooner. Has anyone else seen these soft-lock rules pop up where they live?
