Showerthought: the guy yelling at the town hall meeting about the water tower made me start reading the meeting minutes
I went to the Franklin Township board meeting last month because they were voting on a new cell tower near my kid's school, and I expected a bunch of angry people and no real answers. About 40 people showed up, and this one older guy kept asking where the radiation study was and the board kept saying it was on the website, which it turned out was buried under three menus. When I finally found it, it was 4 pages from 2019 and half the numbers were blank. Now I pull the minutes PDF for every meeting before I show up and I read what got tabled versus what actually passed. I'm not saying anything nuts happened, but the gap between what the minutes say and what I remember hearing said out loud was bigger than I expected. Does anyone know if those minutes get posted before or after they get approved, because I can't figure out who edits them.
Learned the hard way on this with my HOA board a few years back. They kept posting "draft" minutes that left out the part where a board member admitted the fence budget was wrong, then the approved version showed up weeks later with that whole exchange gone. Called the township clerk and she told me drafts go up within a couple days but only get final once the board votes to approve them at the next meeting, so somebody does edit in between. Started recording the meetings on my phone after that and comparing, and let me tell you, the "edits" are real.
