Unpopular opinion: the 'glitch' everyone blames on the app was just the servers, not a cover up
Last Tuesday around 9pm my banking app froze for 40 minutes right after I moved $600 between accounts, and half the forum said it was a cyber attack being hidden. I called support the next morning and the rep told me a single cloud server in Ohio went down, which matches the outage map I pulled up showing the same window. Why does every service hiccup turn into a grand plan when a boring explanation with a timestamp fits better?
A single cloud server in Ohio going down at 9pm and taking 40 minutes to failover is the MOST boring explanation possible, and that is exactly why people hate it. Nobody makes a Netflix doc about a server rack in Columbus losing power. The outage map had a timestamp, the rep gave you a region, that is a paper trail. A cover up would need every rep, every engineer, and a public outage map to all lie in sync, which is way harder than just fixing the server. Sometimes the app breaks because computers break. That is it.
