Appreciation post: the $9 rubber mixing bowl beat my $60 stainless one for color work
Did a full head of highlights last week using the cheap flexible bowl from Sally's because my good one was dirty, and the color mixed smoother with way less clumping. Anyone else notice the bowl matters more than the whisk?
Oh wow, this is making me rethink everything! I heard a colorist talk about this on a podcast once, and she said the rubber bowls grab the hair better so you get less slip when you're working close to the root. She also said stainless steel gets cold, and cold bowls can make the dye sit weird, though I'm not sure how much that really matters. I read somewhere that the texture of the bowl changes how the brush picks up product, so a flexible one kind of squeezes the color as you mix. My own cheap bowl does seem to blend faster now that I pay attention to it. Take this with a grain of salt since I'm just a hobbyist, but your post makes total sense to me.
