I finally watched a stylist at a chain in Toledo do a 15 minute consult before touching anyone, and it made me rethink my own process
Last month I was killing time at a mall in Toledo and watched a stylist at one of those walk in chains sit a client down for a solid 15 minutes before she even picked up a comb. She had a little card and was drawing on it, pointing at the client's jawline and asking about her morning routine and how much time she actually had to style it at home. I've been behind the chair 9 years and my consults are usually 3 minutes tops, just enough to confirm the cut and get going. It hit me that she probably loses fewer clients to "it never looks like this at home" complaints than I do. Does anyone here block out real consult time, or is that just not realistic when you're booked back to back?
