Just spent 45 minutes trying to match a client's old hair color from a photo

She brought in a picture from a wedding in Miami three years ago, said it was her 'perfect shade'. The lighting was so weird and orange, I must have mixed six different formulas trying to get it right. Ended up being a basic 7N with a tiny bit of gold, but my brain was fried. Anyone else ever get totally thrown off by a bad photo reference?

Honestly that's just part of the job though. Clients bring in terrible photos all the time and you gotta figure it out. Getting it right is what makes you a pro.

I used to get so annoyed when clients sent blurry phone pics of their old paint colors. Like, how am I supposed to match that? But last month a guy sent a photo of a faded green door taken in full sun. I mixed three test batches, and when I got it perfect he was so happy he tipped my whole crew. You're right, that's the real win.
