Shoutout to the time I used a whole bottle of hairspray on one updo

Back when I first started at a salon in Tempe, I thought more spray meant more hold... so I'd empty a whole can on a single wedding bun. My boss finally pulled me aside after a client's hair felt like a helmet and said, 'Jamie, that's for the whole week.' Now I just do two light passes with a firm hold brand and a light mist of shine spray. Anyone else have a 'more is better' habit they had to break?

Jump right in with the plastic shell comment - that's basically what I was creating with that mountain of hairspray, a solid helmet of product. It took a few clients complaining their hair couldn't move before I realized stiff isn't always better (and that's a hard lesson when you're trying to impress your boss). Now I aim for a light hold that still lets hair look like hair, not a mannequin head.

My first gel manicure was basically a solid plastic shell.

Ever wonder if that's why they're so hard to get off?
