Til I stopped eyeballing relaxer timing and started using a kitchen timer, way less breakage on my clients
I used to go by feel on relaxer processing, but after a client in Phoenix ended up with breakage at the 18 minute mark last week, I grabbed a $6 timer from Target and now I set it the second I start applying. My last 4 touch-ups have had zero complaints and the hair feels way healthier. Anyone else switch to something dumb simple like that and see a big difference?
18 minutes in Phoenix heat is a whole different ballgame than 18 minutes in a salon with AC. I learned that one the hard way too. A timer fixed the clock, but temp and how fast you apply matter just as much. These days I write the start time on the back of my glove with a sharpie so I never lose track mid-section. Also split the back into two halves if the hair is thick, because that first quadrant you hit is sitting way longer than the last one by the time you finish. Little stuff like that is what actually saves the ends.
