Used to do balayage with just a paddle brush, now I use a fan brush for more control

I spent 5 years doing balayage the same way with a paddle brush and always ended up with heavy lines near the scalp. One day I watched a coworker use a fan brush for her lightener placement and I tried it the next week. Does anyone else find that switching tools totally changed your results or do you stick with what you learned first?

Used a paddle brush for 3 years straight before I grabbed a fan brush on a whim. The control is way better for keeping those fine baby lights near the roots without the harsh lines. Stick with what works for you but I'm glad I made the switch.

The real game changer for me wasn't just the brush itself but how I hold the foils. Switched to a fan brush and started tucking the foil right up against the brush before I place it. Keeps the bleach from bleeding under and gives you razor sharp section lines. Nobody talks about the foil placement trick with the fan brush, that's what made the difference for me.
