Overheard a lady at the library say she makes $400 a month selling sourdough starters
I was just grabbing a book on canning and this woman was telling her friend about how she started selling extra sourdough starter on Facebook Marketplace back in January. She said she dehydrates it, packages it in little bags with instructions, and charges $8 each. She claimed she sells about 50 a month without even trying. That got me thinking about all the little everyday things we make or grow that could actually turn into cash. Has anyone here had luck selling something super simple like that?

50 a month without even trying" feels a little too good to be true, doesn't it? I mean, that's practically a part-time job's worth of packaging and shipping for something most people just give away.

Wait, how did she dehydrate them without killing the yeast? I tried something similar a few years back with my extra kombucha scobys. I listed them on Craigslist for $5 each and was shocked when I sold about 10 in a month. @diana_king, I get your doubt, but honestly once you have the routine down, packaging five or six at a time goes fast. I just used small mason jars and printed labels from home. The key was keeping it local so people could pick up or meet at a coffee shop. It's not a huge income stream, but it paid for my supplies and then some.
