I finally gave up on the old way of rigging a tricky load
Had a job moving a big AC unit onto a roof downtown, and the rigging plan from the office just wasn't working. The chokers kept slipping on the unit's weird frame. I messed with it for almost two hours, trying different angles and hitches. Finally, my spotter, Mike, suggested we use a basket hitch with two slings instead. Had it set and the load balanced in maybe ten minutes after that. Anyone have a go-to method for awkward shaped equipment like that?

Basket hitches are a lifesaver for that exact problem. They spread the load and stop the slipping that drives you crazy. Why do we always try the complicated stuff first?

It's funny how often the simple fix is right there after you've tried everything else. We get stuck in our ways even when it's not working.

That used to be me all the way, I'd always assume the complicated answer was the right one... @matthew864 you're right, we really do get stuck in our own heads. Now I just look for the simplest way first, and save myself a whole lot of headache.
