Load chart lesson from a retired ironworker in Seattle

Been running cranes for roughly 8 years now, mostly tower cranes up here in the PNW. Last month I had a pick on a tight jobsite near Pike Place Market, awkward angle and the load was right at the edge of my comfort zone. A retired ironworker, probably in his 70s, watched me set up from the sidewalk and walked over after I was done. He told me I was trusting the computer too much and not using the load chart enough, said he saw my tagline angle was off by a few degrees and that could mean a couple thousand pounds of difference. I pulled out the chart and he was spot on, I had been eyeballing it instead of doing the math. That conversation pushed me to start doing manual load chart checks on every pick, even quick ones. It adds maybe 2 minutes but gives me way more confidence when the wind picks up. Has anyone else had an old-timer call them out on something that became a permanent habit?
