PSA: I started bringing a small notebook up the tower and it changed how I rig
Six months ago I started jotting down every pick I made in a little pocket notebook, radius, boom angle, load weight, and what actually felt sketchy mid swing. Last Tuesday I flipped back through it before a tricky HVAC set on a tight lot downtown and caught that I'd been setting my outriggers a foot short on that side all along. Twenty two picks logged over those months and the same wobble showed up in nine of them. I moved the pad out and the whole lift felt dead steady. Any of you keep notes like this or do you just trust your gut by now?
Outrigger pads don't move a foot unless someone moved them. If the same wobble showed up on nine of twenty two picks, that's not a rigging problem, that's a pad sinking or your float sitting on soft ground. I've seen it on crushed stone over a culvert downtown, pad looked fine at setup and settled two inches by the third pick. Check the ground under that corner, not just the pad spot. Notes are worth keeping but they'd have caught a moving pad, not a fixed one.
