Rant: I've been using the wrong hand signal for 'lower the boom' for three years

I was on a site in Kansas City last month and the new guy, Jake, just stared at me like I was crazy. I had my arm straight out, palm down, and was moving my hand in a circle. He finally said, 'Dude, that's for 'travel'. You want a fist, thumb down, for 'lower'.' My old crew never corrected me, we just made it work. Has anyone else picked up a bad habit from a crew that just went with it?

Three years is a long time to get it wrong, that's wild. What were the other signals like on your old crew, did they all just adapt to your version? Makes you wonder how many other little things were off but nobody said anything.

My buddy's whole team used the wrong hand signals for months.

Ever think the real problem is that nobody felt safe to ask for a clear check on the basics?
