Was skeptical about load cell calibration kits...
I always just eyeballed my hoist limits on the old Grove at the Port of Savannah. Then a guy named Mike showed me his $200 load cell kit last Tuesday... my off-kilter picks were way closer to the margin than I thought. Has anyone else here actually used one of those self-calibrating links?

Hell yeah, I'll push back on that. A master cell? Come on, man. If you've got a brand new, factory-sealed load cell calibration kit with a traceable cert, you're basically using a ruler that was just checked against the national standard. Using a separate master cell to verify that is like measuring your tape measure with another tape measure. Pick one, trust it, and get on with your day. I worked on a Liebherr LTM 1050 last month where the guy had three different load cells and they all read within 1% of each other on the same test weight. You're overcomplicating it. The real issue is operators who never calibrate at all, not whether you need to prove the proof is proofed.
