I checked my router logs after a year and saw the number of blocked intrusion attempts went from maybe 10 a week to over 200.
The jump happened right after I started working from home and my company's VPN client was installed, which apparently makes my home IP look like a more interesting target to scan.

Ever notice how everything digital now seems to attract more attention, like @adam_kim said? It's like having a porch light on for bugs, but for your whole life.

Honestly that is a huge jump but it makes total sense. Tbh I saw the same thing happen when my work made us install their security software. My router went from being pretty quiet to lighting up with alerts all day long. It really does paint a target on your home network once you connect to those corporate systems. Kinda makes you wonder what else is poking around out there that we never even see.

Yeah that "paint a target" line is exactly right. It's wild how much stuff starts hitting your network after that. Makes you feel exposed.
