Saw a 'diesel mechanic' at the county fair using a can of WD-40 on everything

I was at the fair in Boise last week and the guy running the tractor pull had a sign that said 'Diesel Mechanic On Duty'. Watched him try to fix a fuel line drip by spraying it with WD-40 and saying 'that'll hold'. Has anyone actually seen that work, or is it just a new kind of magic?

That "that'll hold" attitude is everywhere now. I watched a guy at the hardware store fix a wobbly shelf display by jamming cardboard under the leg and calling it a day. It's the same principle, just with different tools.

Cardboard under a shelf leg at a hardware store? I mean, they sell actual shims right there.

Used to think WD-40 was just for squeaky hinges. Saw a guy stop a small coolant leak with it once and it actually held for a few days. Makes you wonder.
