Hit 6 months of working from beaches in Bali before I realized my WiFi setup was backwards

I was sitting at a cafe in Canggu last week with my fourth signal booster of the trip when a local told me the best connection comes from facing the router antenna sideways, not up. Has anyone else been doing something basic totally wrong this whole time overseas?

Wait, so you had the antenna sideways and a local told you to point it up? That's the exact opposite of what everyone's been telling me for years. I guess I've been doing it wrong in my apartment this whole time too then.

Actually the router antenna should be vertical for best range, not sideways.

Agreed fully, same thing happened to me. I spent weeks with my antenna sideways wondering why my signal was crap in the back room. Once I flipped it vertical, the range literally doubled and my dead zones disappeared.
