Remember when you had to pick a 'home base' country for banking?

Back in 2018, I had to choose between keeping my US account open with all its fees or fully switching to a new digital bank in Portugal. I went with the Portuguese option to simplify taxes. It worked for two years until I moved to Serbia and couldn't easily access certain international payment gateways. Has anyone else locked themselves out of a needed service by changing their financial 'home'?

Yeah that's a rough spot to be in. Banking rules really don't keep up with how people actually live now. Moving around makes it all so much harder than it should be. Feel like you're always one step behind some new fee or blocked service. Gets expensive fast, too. Hope you find a workaround soon.

Williams90 is right about always being a step behind, it's like that with everything now, not just banking.

Locked myself out like that too, classic move.
